Well, of course needed a greatest-hits album. They'd need one even if they weren't reuniting for a world tour that is as heavily hyped if not as anticipated as 's (which of course is just a one-time shot, right?), as they were a singles-oriented group without a singles album in their catalog. And so, 2007's, which has everything you know plus a few songs you don't and no left-field choices (if you were hoping that 'Bumper to Bumper' would gain its rightful place as one of their finest, you're out of luck!). The songs have aged exactly as you thought they might: 'Wannabe' is still too familiar, '2 Become 1' too drippy, 'Spice Up Your Life' plain ridiculous, but 'Say You'll Be There' is still sexy, 'Stop' is as awesome a slice of obligatory British Tamla/Motown as you'll get, and 'Goodbye' is actually a pretty good finale, while the rest is forgettable, as are the two new songs, the sleepy 'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)' -- which isn't as self-referential or clever as its title suggests -- and the peppy 'Voodoo.' But music was always secondary to ' girl power image: they had enough great singles to be huge for a couple years but not enough to be more than a quicksilver pop culture phenomenon and that brief moment in time is documented better on this than any of their three albums. Its not perfect of course as they suffer in singing but the music and production stands out! The Spice Girls were huge in the 90s.

In all actuallity, I bet many who grew up in the 90s will look back and see them as icons of the period. They took a commercial pop sound and gave it an internationally recognised face. As far as such a pop sound goes, they weren't so bad (though that's probably more down to clever producers rather than the Spice Girl individuals). Regardless of what you think of them, they'll be remembered as icons of the 90s, along with the Macarena and fads such as Tazos (or Pogs) and Tamagotchis.

Ha, the 90s - lest we forget. Style is all that matters! Regarding the talent of the Spice Girls, obviously they all know how to sing and are expert entertainers. So why do they get such a bad rap? I think it's because of their style, which is so pink, posh, and directed so specifically that a lot of people are not going to like it.

I mean these girls are like the Fugazi and Sonic Youth of girly pop music! I love the Spice Girls. Songs like 'Say You'll Be There' and 'Stop' are classics. You can bet years from now when they play one of those songs on the radio, they'll be some people asking 'Hey, that song sounds really familiar, who was that?' Is there ANYBODY that doesn't have a crush on at least one of these girls? The only bad thing I have to say about the Spice Girls is that they seem to be a corporate product, oh well.
